A Passion for Design

This week’s Thursday profile spotlights a local entrepreneur who has a real passion for design.

But his design work has nothing to do with websites, GUIs, or iPhone apps.

Justin Sharer, owner of Sharer Design Group in downtown Plymouth, makes dreams become realities by designing and building new kitchen, bathroom, and home spaces.

Born and raised in neighboring Canton, Sharer opened up his new store and company just a few months ago in January of 2012.

“I started off building cabinets, but my goal and my passion have always been design.”

Sharer had been in the industry for over ten years before opening up his Plymouth location. He previously worked for a Dearborn company where he honed his expertise for design, creativity, and construction.

When asked if he ever thought if he would be an entrepreneur, Sharer remarked that it was his dream as a kid:

“The interest of owning a design/construction business has always been there. I watched Hometime and all of those kinds of shows as a kid. And my parents always allowed me to be hands-on around the house, even if I had to go back and fix my mistakes later.”

Timing is also working in Sharer’s favor: home improvement projects continue to rise as home-buying remains low. Over all, Sharer is expecting a great first year of business.

Sharer also credits the Plymouth Chamber and local business community for their early and ongoing success.

His favorite part being an entrepreneur?

“Seeing the customer’s reaction. I like making the people happy. They see their dream kitchen or space in their mind. For us to bring it to life for them is a real passion of mine.”

Also notable is Sharer’s new self-designed Cabinet Line, Sharer Cabinetry, samples of which arrived in the store just this week. The product is Michigan-made and will be featured in the front display at the Plymouth store.
